Materials: New sponge, scissors, mustard seeds, plastic plate, plastic wrap (recycled is always a good idea) and a spray bottle (thoroughly rinsed and cleaned). Instructions: For this activity, which will span a week or two, campers are responsible for watering and taking care of their sprout art. First, cut the new sponge into a desired shape. Soak it in water and then squeeze it. You want the sponge to be wet, but not dripping. Second, place the sponge on a plate or dish and sprinkle with the seeds, covering the top of the sponge evenly. Next, cover the sponge and dish with plastic wrap and keep covered every night to keep the sponge moist. Unwrap it during the day, making sure it is exposed to plenty of sunlight. Keep the sponge damp by spraying a water mist over it daily. The seeds should eventually sprout and grow. Within 12 days, the sponge will be a tiny garden of mini-mustard plants. If desired, campers can eat them too!
